This roadway has taken and will take more property and homes on its way to progress. Not only homes have been taken, but the very essence of what Vernon was has fallen victim to the wrecking ball. Progress marches north out of Vernon right now and more families have been put on notice. As a matter of fact, the Department of Transportation appraiser will be at my home next week. All the work and sacrifice to buy back what was left of my father's homestead and establish a home that would be mine until I leave this earth, ends within the next few months as the wrecking ball levels my home and the beautiful oaks are no more. Grandma's house will be no more. No one can really understand what it means to have your soul in a piece of land and a structure until it comes time to know that that land and that house will no longer be for evermore.
